  1. No question for me: "Wished Awry" is it. The others don't have much bite, but I love the humor in the fourth.

    nice job!

  2. Wow, I like Traitor Born! That sounds like a sad start for the poor little guy. Is this Sci Fi? It has a feel of someone how struggles through out his/her life and fights for his/her identity. Almost like Minority Report. Good one!!!

  3. These all sound like great pieces with short, punchy titles. I'm with both Bryan and Elizabeth on the respective titles.

  4. I like Traitor Born. Definitely. And I agree with Elizabeth: if it's sci-fi, sounds sorta like "Minority Report." It already has tension built in: traitors definitely have conflict. lol

  7. I like Traitor Born. Wished Awry is nice, too, but the first time I read it I saw Wished Away, so I'd go with the clearer one.

    *glances at about me*

Ooo, anthro! I have one year left in my BA. Ah, people with super specific anthro interests intimidate me a little - I have no idea what I want to do. Possibly museum work? Anyway, nice to meet another writer/anthro combo!

  9. Thanks a bunch! I'm surprised Traitor Born got such a favorable response...the only comment I ever got on the title in a grit group was that "it makes no sens." At least this means it isn't stupid :P So it's between Traitor born and Wished Awry? Awesome...they're very different stories :D

@ Bridge: lol...I spent 8 years working on my BA. Towards the end I was strongly considering Grad school, but had been advised that I needed to 'pick something specific" if I wanted to pursue it. It didn't help that the program that really excited me was at UC Santa Cruz, but it requires fluency for a Cultural PhD (you know those programs where they treat Masters degrees as a runner-up prize? They're more common than straight MA/MS degrees out here). For what it's worth, I felt the "specific" I chose was a bit of a cop out. My best friends are all Vietnamese and Chinese, the majority of whom were born in Vietnam. So the "specific" interest was based on interests I'd pursue despite any academic recognition.

That said...it seems like you recieved the 4 field approach. Yay! I studied at 2 universities...and SFSU did NOT teach the 4 fields. People didn't seem to understand the relationship between cultural/arch/bio/linguistic and it made me REALLY uncomfortable after my JC hammered the 4 fields into me. I waxed from archaeology to linguistic to cultural back and forth a ton...before deciding my final *cough 8th* year of college what I really would love to dedicate years of study too :D I still love learning about all 4 fields... and discussing them!

I'm applying to museums right now, myself :D

  10. I like Traitor Born, too. It's catchy. Wished Awry is cool, but people will stumble over that title.
